All I want for Christmas is for someone to come and yarn-bomb my car. Jet-Jet would look soooo much cuter cruising down the highway covered in multi-colored yarn, right?
Okay, so I realize I’m a little slow on the uptake. I just found out about “yarn-bombing” like…the day before yesterday. Basically, the idea is that a groups of guerrila grandma grafitti artists (say that five times fast) are embracing the girly side of street art. Women like Sarah Appelbaum and Magda Sayeg have paved the way towards a new art form that embraces the idea of making the ugly and cold pretty and warm. Think leg warmers on street signs.
Anyway, it’s pretty incredible. Check out the winter GAP advertisements on Sayeg’s blog, Knitta Please.
SO CUTE! It reminds me of a magical Disney/Dr. Seuss world (don’t even get me started on how excited I am to see The Lorax…) and I wish more than anything that everything was covered in yarn.
So Santa, if you’re reading this – I’d love to see “Yarn Bombing: The Art of Crochet and Knit Graffiti,” by Mandy Moore and Leanne Prain underneath my Christmas tree on Sunday (preferably in crocheted wrapping). Regardless, I’m planning on dragging my butt over to the craft store tomorrow so I can yarn-bomb the boyfriend with a new beanie for Christmas.
How cool would it be to see the Eiffel Tower covered in yarn?! Future project…? Feeling inspired!
